From my bed,
waning moon
glides
across a velvet sky.
A planet
shimmers nearby,
far above
the earth
and
my head.
The Blue Marble rotates.
Woke up
7:00 a.m.
to pumpkin spice darkness
odorless
it took only one dream and half a nightmare
to travel the
forty-three point seven five six million miles
to the red planet.

She just couldn’t figure out what that something was. Had it risen from the cooling embers when she turned and reached for her fleece?
