IT’S NOT YOUR MAMMA’S HALLOWEEN RECIPE

halloween cookies

‘Twas All Hallows Eve, the one-hundredth in a row,
When Headwitch prepared her special cookie dough.
Kids craved the old crone’s gooey, ghoulish treats—
Goodies that’d send them howling down streets.
‘Cause what would the spookiest day of the year
Be without tricks and a small dose of fear?

The ingredients? Bat wings, pumpkin, and salt,

A pinch of lizard’s toenail, a teaspoon of—“Halt!”
Cried the crone’s apprentice, obstructing the pot,
“I’ve forgotten the hairy werewolves’ snot!”

“Drat!” grumbled Headwitch,
throwing down her spoon.
Then,
on her rickety broomstick she creaked

To the Slimes-R-Us just past the moon.

Besides being my yearly Halloween poem, “It’s Not Your Mamma’s Halloween Recipe” is my 98 word answer to Susanna Leonard Hill’s 4th Annual HALLOWEENSIE CONTEST: write a 100 word Halloween story appropriate for children (title not included in the 100 words), using the words  pumpkinbroomstick, and creak.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN
Everyone!
Who’d like a witch’s finger? Just baked!

No recipe is complete without a hairy werewolves snot. The texture is absolutely essential as is the essential boil oil of a troll in some recipes.

From a home baker’s standpoint the recipe gets 5 stars. This is a clever take on preparing for the holiday. Off to Slimes-R-Us for me.

LOL you truly are a crazy lady — I say this with the greatest of love 😀
Here in Oz, we don’t celebrate Halloween, but of course over the last few years, the stores have decided it’s a wonderful money maker. So now you’ll get half a dozen or so kids knocking on your door at Halloween every year.
