Oh, y’ve done me well,
me bonnie blue plaid wellies,
always keepin’ me from sinkin’ deep
in bogs squishy, black, an’ smelly.
I’ve enjoyed our strolls across lush fairy glens,
twistin’ up trails o’ sweet smellin’ heather,
holdin’ up stones,
an’ sloshin’ thru fens
in all kinds o’ Scottish weather.
An’ do ye remember the eye-catchin’ field?
The one bursting with neck-high bracken?
Aye, how ye strode an’ ironed it flat
to the spring to refill me flacon.
Indeed, ye’ve done me well,
me bonnie blue plaid wellies,
ye’ kept me feet dry an’ warm in me socks,
as we scrambled o’er skeins
o’ golden selkie locks.
An’ ye dinna even fail me the day
ye’ slashed yer sole takin’ a stride
o’re cockles, an’ mussles,
an’ sharp bits o’ rocks,
scramblin’ ahead of the incomin’ tide.
Aye, lo ’tis with a heap o’ sorrow that
I’m distressed by yer sudden demise.
But rest assured, what keeps me goin’
is the hope that y’re feelin’ likewise.
An’ now, alas, I must bid ye, “ADIEU”
with a bit o’pomp and flare.
An’ I hope ye’ll join me in sayin’, “WELCOME!”
to me next bonnie aqua-blue pair.
I like your Wellie style and those bees promise your feet will be busy!

I am LOATHE to give up clothes I love (just ask the jeans I’ve patched to death just so I can keep them on my body.) But an ode! And only as I read your rhyming scheme did I realize all these years I’ve mispronounced flacon. 🙂

Words are funny like that 🙂 And good for you! I’d hate to think how my favorite jeans would fit (or rather, not fit) today if I had kept up with them.
