This Spotless, Blank, White Page

Why is it so terrifying? So intimidating? So daunting?

Taunting.

Sneering.

Scoffing.

Mocking.

White space
flaunting
power.

How long must I wait for Inspiration
to show it’s face?
to strike a blow?
to spill it’s guts?

How long must I
tickle,
coax,
cajole,
until
it fires up a neuron
and shoots across the smaller than a pin-prick
synaptic void?

Hmmmmm?

Sparks flash
Fingers fly
tap-tap-tap
tap-tap

Cinched brows arc
Eyes stare agape

This page,

This marked-up half-blank page,

was all along
a challenge,
a dare,

an Invitation

for Inspiration

to find a thankful home.

~ Just as I was about to post, I stumbled upon this writing advice from Jack London ~

“You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.”

How àpropos!

So, if you’ll excuse me,
I’m going hunting…

    Do you ever do timed free-writes on a subject? Sometimes I find that helps. I find the act of putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and letting the mind free associate will loosen some idea.

      Many thanks for the reminder, Susanne! I have done that, too. I need to get back to it. It isn’t that I’ve stopped writing, just coming up with ideas for the blog. Ah well, I think I’ll blame it on the political shenanigans in my country. Although, there’s certainly plenty of fodder there…
