DRAWING A BLANK

This Page

This Blank Page

This Spotless, Blank, White Page

Why is it so terrifying? So intimidating? So daunting?

Taunting.

Sneering.

Scoffing.

Mocking.

White space
flaunting
power.

How long must I wait for Inspiration
to show it’s face?
to strike a blow?
to spill it’s guts?

How long must I
tickle,
coax,
cajole,
until
it fires up a neuron
and shoots across the smaller than a pin-prick
synaptic void
?

Hmmmmm?

Sparks flash
Fingers fly
tap-tap-tap
tap-tap

Cinched brows arc
Eyes stare agape

This page,

This marked-up half-blank page,

was all along
a challenge,
a dare,

an Invitation

for Inspiration

to find a thankful home.

~ Just as I was about to post, I stumbled upon this writing advice from Jack London ~

“You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.”

How àpropos!

So, if you’ll excuse me,
I’m going hunting…

  1. Somehow, it’s not registering my like. But I LIKE it! Sending you some neuron firing vibes from across the Bay!

Do you ever do timed free-writes on a subject? Sometimes I find that helps. I find the act of putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and letting the mind free associate will loosen some idea.

    • Many thanks for the reminder, Susanne! I have done that, too. I need to get back to it. It isn’t that I’ve stopped writing, just coming up with ideas for the blog. Ah well, I think I’ll blame it on the political shenanigans in my country. Although, there’s certainly plenty of fodder there…

  5. You’re so cute, roomie. Sometime when we’re lounging in our respective bunks (I call the upper) I’ll play my word association game with you and I just know that will spark you back into your awesome groove. Meanwhile I relate.
