A fresh start
That is the promise.
Did you decide it was time

Or did you depend on your heart to make that choice?
Were you in over your head –
unable to see the silver lining?
Or was there nothing
but a black void ready to suck you into a chasm of hopelessness?
I like to think you waved a white flag
and surrendered to angels whispering your name in the gentle breeze
or
simply made the perfect swan dive into eternity all on your own
A clean page
A fresh start
A promise
fulfilled
It’s easier to say good-bye when I know you’re in good hands.

Well you did a fine job of it. It’s certainly far lovelier than a lot of heavy handed sympathy/coping poems are. Delicate situations should be approached delicately and this is a great example of doing it right, in my opinion.
