HALLOWE’EN HAUNT

Halloween moonT’is the eve before November first,
The night vampires rise to quench their thirst.
T’is the time men are shackled
to walls and beds
for fear the moonlight will burst their threads
transforming them into

LUCY DEVILa great

hairy
beast

who,
with
gusto,

upon your flesh

will
feast.

T’is the night when all who’ve been charmed by a curse
Are released from their chains and
from their dungeons disperse
to the nether lands that are so well-known
simply
as
YOUR
home-sweet-home.

Now, once they’ve gained entry…
(which is easy, t’is true,
since it’s the eve of All Hallows
and a cinch to break through
the veil that separates
THEM
from
YOU)
…you’ll want them to leave
immediately, post-haste,
or else they’ll stay forever,
making your home their base.
And they will be stubborn, quite difficult to deter,
so bribe them with candy
or their wrath you’ll incur…

Witches on broomsticks, their shrieks unrehearsed – ghouls, zombies, and goblins cruisin’ ’round in a hearse – poltergeists, specters – ALL  are well-versed
in sending cold shivers down your spine,
prompting your backbone to misalign,
turning your knees
first to pudding, then jelly,
leaving you sobbing,
and hugging
your belly.

AHH – YES,
t’is the very night
when horror unbridled reigns,
sending spiders, snakes, and eyeballs
crawling up your bathroom drains.
THANKFULLY,
t’is the only night
terror stalks our homes and streets,
but only until banished by
kids dressed in long, white sheets.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN
